The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is proposing a renewal of the Mining Storm Water, Dewatering, and No Discharge General Permit that expired on March 31, 2023. Mining Storm Water, Dewatering, and No Discharge General Permit (Mining General permit) authorizes mining storm water and dewatering discharges and operation of wastewater recirculation systems with no discharge.

The thirty (30) day public notice starts August 18, 2023. Written comments should be submitted to the MDEQ no later than September 18, 2023. See the Public Notice for further instructions on providing comments.
NOTICE: MDEQ has administratively continued the Mining Stormwater, Dewatering, and No Discharge General Permit issued on April 3, 2018. The 2018 permit will remain in full force and effect until a replacement permit has been issued. Coverage holder should comply with the requirements in the existing permit during this period. When a replacement permit has been issued, coverage holders will be notified with instructions for reapplying for coverage.
Mining Storm Water, Dewatering, and No Discharge General Permit (Mining General permit) authorizes mining storm water and dewatering discharges and operation of wastewater recirculation systems with no discharge. This permit also authorizes storm water discharges from other mining activities, designated by the Executive Director, based on the potential for contribution to an excursion of a water quality standard or for significant contribution of pollutants to waters of the State.
