MDEQ Lifts Six Water Contact Advisories
Three Stations Under Advisory
(JACKSON, Miss.) — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted water contact advisories for six beach monitoring stations on Thursday. Water samples at these station show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently three other stations under an advisory.Advisories have been lifted for the following stations:
►Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach — from Espy Avenue east to Hayden Avenue.
►Station 7A — Long Beach — from Oak Gardens Avenue eastward to Girard Avenue.
►Station 8 — Gulfport West Beach — from Marie Avenue to Camp Avenue.
►Station 10 — Gulfport Central Beach — from Alfonso Drive to Arkansas Avenue.
►Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach — from Courthouse Road to Tegarden Road.
►Station 11A — Edgewater Beach — from Debuys Road east to Edgewater Avenue.
The following stations are still under advisory:
►Station 9 — Gulfport Harbor Beach — from 20th Avenue eastward to Thornton Avenue.
►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — from Tegarden to Anniston Avenue.
►Station 12A — Biloxi West Central Beach — from Travia Street to Iberville Drive.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
