MDEQ Lifts Four Water Contact Advisories
One Station Under Advisory
(JACKSON, Miss.) — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted four water contact advisories Wednesday for beach monitoring stations 1, 2, 7A, and 9. Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. There is currently one station across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory—Station 11.The advisories have been lifted for the following stations:
►Station 1 — Lakeshore Beach near Lakeshore Drive — from the Silver Slipper Casino east to Poinset.
►Station 2 – Buccaneer State Park Beach — the extent is from 100 yards west of the sign eastward to 100 yards east of the sign.
►Station 7A — Long Beach — from Oak Gardens Avenue to Girard Avenue.
►Station 9 — Gulfport Harbor Beach — from 20th Avenue east to Thornton Avenue.
This station remains under advisory:
►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — from Tegarden Road east to Anniston Avenue.
Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
