MDEQ Lifts Beach Water Contact Advisory in Pass Christian
Four Advisories Remain in Effect
Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted a beach water contact advisory for Pass Christian Central Beach. Water samples show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. Four advisories remain in effect.
The beaches themselves are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisories will be lifted.
An advisory has been lifted for:
- Pass Christian Central Beach — the previously affected area is from Henderson Ave. east to Hiern Ave. (Station 6)
Advisories remain in effect for:
- Long Beach — the affected area is from Oak Garden Ave. east to Girard Ave. (Station 7A)
- Pass Christian East Beach — the affected area is from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave. (Station 7)
- Gulfport West Beach — the affected area is from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave. (Station 8)
- Biloxi East Central Beach — the affected area is from St. Peter St. east to Dukate Street. (Station 12B)
Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming should not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
