MDEQ Lifts Beach Water Contact Advisory in Gulfport
One Advisory Remains in Effect

Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted the beach water contact advisory for Gulfport West Beach. Water samples at this station shows the area has reached acceptable bacteria levels. One beach water contact advisory remains in effect for Gulfport Harbor Beach.

The beach itself is not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in the area. When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisory will be lifted.

The advisory was lifted for:

  • Gulfport West Beach — the previously affected area is from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave. (Station 8)

An advisory remains in effect for:

  • Gulfport Harbor Beach — the affected area is from 20th Ave. east to Thornton Ave. (Station 9)

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming should not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
