MDEQ Lifts Beach Water Contact Advisory in Gulfport

Two Advisories Remain in Effect

Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a beach water contact advisory for Gulfport West Beach. Two beach water contact advisories remain in effect.

When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisories will be lifted.

An advisory has been lifted for:

  • Gulfport West Beach — the previously affected area is from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave. (Station 8)

Advisories remain in effect for:

  • Waveland Beach — the affected area is from Oak Blvd. east to Favre St. (Station 3)
  • Bay St. Louis Beach — the affected area is from the Box Culvert east to Ballantine St. (Station 4)

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
