MDEQ Lifts One Beach Water Contact Advisory in Biloxi
and Issues One in Pass Christian
One Other Advisory Remains in Effect

Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted the beach water contact advisory for Biloxi East Central Beach. Water samples at this station show the area has reached acceptable bacteria levels.

A beach water contact advisory has been issued for Pass Christian East Beach. One other beach water contact advisory remains in effect for Long Beach.

The beaches are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisories will be lifted.

An advisory has been lifted for:

  • Biloxi East Central Beach — the previously affected area is from St. Peter St. east to Dukate Street. (Station 12B)

An advisory has been issued for:

  • Pass Christian East Beach — the affected area is from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave. (Station 7)

An advisory remains in effct for:

  • Long Beach — the affected area is from Oak Garden Ave. east to Girard Ave. (Station 7A)

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming should not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
