MDEQ Lifts Advisory for Gulfport Area Water Bodies

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) lifted a water contact advisory Tuesday that had been issued August 21 for several water bodies in the Gulfport area.

The advisory included Gulfport Lake, the Industrial Seaway, Bernard Bayou, and into Big Lake to Popps Ferry Road.

MDEQ advises that people can now engage in water contact such as swimming or wading and can consume fish or anything else taken from these waters. Water samples taken during the last few days returned results below the levels of concern.

The advisory had been issued due to a wastewater force main break near Bernard Bayou and Carl Leggett Road in the City of Gulfport.
