MDEQ Lifts Advisory for Gulfport and Biloxi Water Bodies

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) lifted a water contact advisory Monday that had been issued October 4, and extended October 6, for several water bodies in Gulfport and Biloxi.

The advisory included the Industrial Seaway and Bernard Bayou from Highway 49 through Big Lake to Popps Ferry Road in Biloxi. (see attached map).

MDEQ advises that people can now engage in water contact such as swimming or wading and can consume fish or anything else taken from these waters. Water samples taken during the last few days returned results below the levels of concern.

The advisory had been issued due to breaches in two force mains in the City of Gulfport last week.
