MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory in Gulfport
Three Other Advisories in Effect
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Saturday for sampling station 10B in Gulfport (East Courthouse Road Beach). Advisories are still in effect for stations 7, 8, and 10.
►Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach — near Courthouse Road Pier in Gulfport — from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden Rd.
Advisories are still in effect for:
►Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach — from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave.
►Station 8 — Gulfport West Beach — from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave.
►Station 10 – Gulfport Central Beach — from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.
These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
