MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Town Creek
(JACKSON, Miss.) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory Friday for a section of Town Creek in Jackson. The advisory extends on Town Creek from West Fortification Street to its confluence with the Pearl River.
MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreation such as swimming, wading, or fishing in these waters. People should also avoid eating fish or anything else taken from these waters until further notice.
The advisory is issued due to blockage in a sewer line at 275 Manship Street that created a discharge into the stormwater system reaching Town Creek near Monument Street. MDEQ staff has begun to monitor bacteria levels and water quality and will revise the advisory as needed.
