(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a water contact advisory Wednesday for a section of Kuykendall Creek near the Town of Oakland. The advisory is issued for Kuykendall Creek from Highway 51 to its confluence with the North Fork Tillatoba Creek and its crossing with Oakland Enid Road (see attached map).
MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreational activities such as swimming, wading, and fishing in these waters.
The advisory is being issued due to a bypass at a lift station that is discharging wastewater into a ditch that drains into Kuykendall Creek.
MDEQ staff is monitoring the creek’s water quality and working with the town regarding repairs. The advisory may be revised as needed.
