MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory Following Sewage Discharge Into Orphan Creek in Hancock County

MDEQ is issuing a water contact advisory following the release of wastewater into Orphan Creek in Hancock County.

The advisory covers a section of Orphan Creek from MS-603 to MS-43 (see attached map).  This advisory is being issued due to a temporary failure of a wastewater treatment facility.

MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreational activities such as swimming, wading, and fishing in these waters.  MDEQ will follow up with monitoring and will revise the advisory as needed.
