MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisories for Stations 4 and 10
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Tuesday for sampling stations 4 and 10. In addition, a closure is still in effect in Long Beach and an advisory for Station 11.
Advisories are issued for:
►Station 4 — Bay St. Louis Beach — near St. Charles St. — the extent is from the Box Culvert east to Ballantine St.
►Station 10 — Gulfport Central Beach — the extent is from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.
An advisory remains in effect for:
►Station 11 – Gulfport East Beach — the extent is from Tegarden Rd. east to Anniston Ave.
These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted.
The preemptive closure issued January 3 remains in effect for:
►Long Beach — from South Lang Ave. to Runnels Ave.
MDEQ advises residents not to enter the water or consume any seafood collected from these nearshore waters until further notice. MDEQ is monitoring the water and will lift the closure when bacteria levels indicate conditions are safe for water contact.More information about the Mississippi Beach Monitoring Program and the status of beach advisories is available at: http://opcgis.deq.state.ms.us/beaches.
