MDEQ Issues Three Beach Advisories

Seven Others in Effect

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Friday for Stations 12A (Biloxi West Central Beach), 14 (Front Beach), and 15 (Shearwater Beach). Advisories remain in effect for Stations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7A.

Advisories are issued for:

  • Station 12 A — Biloxi West Central Beach — from Travia St. east to Iberville Dr.
  • Station 14 — Front Beach (Ocean Springs) — from the Yacht Club east to Jackson Ave.
  • Station 15 — Shearwater Beach (Ocean Springs) — from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Place.

Advisories remain in effect for:

  1. Station 1 — Lakeshore Beach (Bay St. Louis) — the extent is from the Silver Slipper Casino east to Pointset Ave.
  2. Station 2 — Buccaneer State Park Beach (Waveland) — from 100 yards west of the sign eastward to 100 yards east of the sign.
  3. Station 3 — Waveland Beach — from Oak Blvd. east to Favre St.
  4. Station 4 — Bay St. Louis Beach — from the Box Culvert east to Ballantine St..
  5. Station 5 — Pass Christian West Beach — from Fort Henry Ave. east to Elliot St.
  6. Station 6 — Pass Christian Central Beach — from Henderson Ave. east to Hiern Ave.
  7. Station 7A — Long Beach — from Oak Gardens Ave. east to Girard Ave.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
