MDEQ Issues Three Beach Advisories

Advisory Remains in Effect for Station 20

(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued three water contact advisories Friday for Station 6 (Pass Christian Central Beach), Station 7A (Long Beach), and Station 8 (Gulfport West Beach). An advisory remains in effect for Station 20 (Pascagoula Beach East).

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted.

Advisories are issued for:

► Station 6 — Pass Christian Central Beach — from Henderson Ave. east to Hiern Ave.

► Station 7A — Long Beach — near Trautman Ave. — from Oak Gardens east to Girard.

► Station 8 — Gulfport West Beach — from Maria Ave. east to Camp Ave.

Advisory in effect for:

► Station 20 — Pascagoula Beach East – from Westwood to Grand Oaks Dr.

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
