MDEQ Issues Temporary Water Advisory for Section of Pearl River
(JACKSON, Miss.) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory Tuesday for a section of the Pearl River in the Jackson area from the I-20 bridge to Rosemary Road in Terry.
MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreation such as swimming or wading in these waters. In addition, people should avoid eating fish from these waters until further notice.
The advisory is issued due to pump failures at the Savannah Street Wastewater Treatment Plant that resulted in a release of partially treated wastewater into the Pearl River.
MDEQ staff will monitor bacteria levels and water quality and will revise the advisory as needed.
