MDEQ Issues Temporary Advisory For Eubanks Creek In Jackson
(JACKSON, Miss.) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory Tuesday for a section of Eubanks Creek in Jackson. The advisory is issued due to a broken 12 inch wastewater line crossing Eubanks Creek near the intersection of the Frontage Road west of I-55 and Lakeland Drive. The advisory extends from the confluence of Eubanks Creek with the Pearl River to Old Canton Road (see attached map). The city is currently working to resolve the issues.
MDEQ staff took water samples Tuesday and has begun to monitor bacteria levels and water quality in the creek and will revise the advisory as needed. MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreation such as swimming or wading in these waters. In addition, people should avoid eating fish from these waters until further notice.
