MDEQ Issues Four Water Contact Advisories Five Other Advisories in Effect

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued four water contact advisories Wednesday for sampling stations 1, 7, 10B, and 11A. Advisories are still in effect for stations 3, 11, 12A, 14, and 15.

Advisories are issued for:

►Station 1 — Lakeshore Beach near Lakeshore Drive, Bay St. Louis. The extent is from the Silver Slipper Casino eastward to Poinset.

►Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach — from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave.

►Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach in Gulfport — from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden Rd.

►Station 11A — Edgewater Beach in Biloxi — from Debuys Rd. east to Edgewater Ave.

Advisories are still in effect for:

►Station 3 — Waveland Beach — from Oak Blvd. east to Favre St.

►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — from Tegarden east to Anniston Ave.

►Station 12A — Biloxi West Central Beach — from Travia St. east to Iberville Dr.

►Station 14 — Front Beach — near Martin Ave. in Ocean Springs. The extent is from the Yacht Club eastward to Jackson Ave.

►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach (Ocean Springs) – from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley.

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
