MDEQ Issues Beach Closure in Biloxi
(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a beach closure Wednesday for a section of beach in Biloxi:
●Station 12B – Biloxi East Central Beach – from St. Peter Street east to Dukate Street.
The closure is being issued due to stormwater construction by the city that affected bacteria levels.
MDEQ advises residents not to enter the water or consume any seafood collected from these nearshore waters until further notice. MDEQ will monitor the water and lift the closure when bacteria levels indicate conditions are safe for water contact.
The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area has returned to acceptable levels.
