MDEQ Issues Beach Closure in Biloxi
(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a beach closure Thursday for a section of beach in Biloxi:
● Station 12A – Biloxi West Central Beach – from Travia Avenue east to Iberville Drive.
This segment of beach has been under an advisory but was changed to a closure today due to a force main break outside a lift station. The City of Biloxi is working to repair the line. The city along with the Harrison County Sand Beach Authority are taking measures to prevent further flow into the Mississippi Sound.
MDEQ advises residents not to enter the water or consume any seafood collected from these nearshore waters until further notice. MDEQ will monitor the water and lift the closure when bacteria levels indicate conditions are safe for water contact.
