MDEQ Issues Beach Closure for Section of Beach in Biloxi

(JACKSON, Miss.) — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a precautionary beach closure Monday from Grande View Drive to Brady Drive in Biloxi (approximately from east of Edgewater Mall to just past Beauvoir).  The City of Biloxi reported to MDEQ that a pump station malfunctioned today and that sewage entered the beach area.  The pump station has been repaired.

The public can still enjoy using the sand that borders the water, but water contact at that beach should be avoided.  This includes swimming, wading, fishing, riding jetskis, etc.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the closure will be lifted.
