MDEQ Awards Solid Waste Assistance Grant to Cleveland for HHW Event


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) awarded the City of Cleveland a solid waste assistance grant of $23,000 that will be used by the city for a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event. It will be held on Saturday, April 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the city’s Department of Public Works located at 1098 Old Highway 61 North. 

MDEQ Awards Solid Waste Assistance Grant to Three Rivers for Two HHW Events


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) awarded the Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority a solid waste assistance grant of $75,000 that will be used for two household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events. One is tentatively scheduled to be held April 16 at the Conference Center in Oxford and the second for April 23 at the Agriculture Center in Verona. 

MDEQ Issues Two Water Contact Advisories in Ocean Springs


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Tuesday for two sampling stations in Ocean Springs. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Friday for a sampling station in Waveland. This segment of beach is not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area. 

MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Sand Creek in Oktibbeha County


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a water contact advisory Thursday for a segment of Sand Creek in the Starkville area. The advisory extends from the headwaters of the unnamed tributary that flows from south of Highway 182 to the North Farm on to the confluence with Sand Creek northwest of Starkville Ford-Lincoln, then southeast past Highland Plantation until the confluence with the northern tributary of Sand Creek south of East Starkville Church/Greenland Road.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a Gulf Coast wide beach closure Friday that was issued December 11 due to a large concentration of Karenia brevis algae causing a red tide off shore.
