MDEQ Lifts Three Water Contact Advisories 


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted water contact advisories for three beach monitoring stations on Wednesday. Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently three stations that remain under an advisory. The six advisories were issued March 11.The advisories have been lifted for:

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Friday for six sampling stations. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. 

MDEQ Announces NFWF Funded Land Acquisition Project


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced on Thursday the receipt of a $17.43 million grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). The money will be used to fund a project titled “The Acquisition of Priority Tracts for Coastal Habitat Connectivity – Phase I.” This project was developed in consultation with state and federal resource agencies and is designed to remedy harm and reduce the risk of future harm to natural resources that were affected by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. 

MDEQ Lifts Water Contact Advisory in Biloxi 


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory for one beach monitoring station in Biloxi on Tuesday. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently no stations across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory.The advisory has been lifted for:

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory today for a sampling station in Biloxi. This segment of beach is not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area. 

MDEQ Awards Two Grants to Lamar County


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has awarded Lamar County a $30,000 two-year waste tire grant to continue the local waste tire collection program for small quantity generators of waste tires. And, the county also received a solid waste assistance grant of $22,941 for their white goods collection program.
