The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Tuesday for Station 11 in Gulfport. Four other advisories previously issued are still in effect. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory for a beach monitoring station in Waveland on Tuesday. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. Mississippi Receives First Planning Grant from RESTORE Council
Gary Rikard, Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), announced Friday that the State of Mississippi will receive a planning grant to develop projects and programs in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council (RESTORE Council) has awarded a RESTORE Act Oil Spill Component Planning grant of $1.4 million to MDEQ on behalf of the state.
