The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) awarded Hancock County a solid waste assistance grant of $50,000 that will be used by the county for a household hazardous waste collection event in the fall of 2016. A grant of $22,500 was also awarded to the Hancock County Regional Solid Waste Management Authority to clean up illegal dump sites.

Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. There is currently one station across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory—Station 10.The advisory has been lifted for the following station:
MDEQ Issues Contact Advisory for Station in Gulfport
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Thursday for Station 10 in Gulfport. One other advisory for Station 11 previously issued is still in effect. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.
