Retirement Plans
- Employees of MDEQ are members of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). It is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code, which determines a member’s retirement benefit using a formula based on the member’s average compensation, years of creditable service, and the benefit payment option selected at retirement.
- MDEQ employees are eligible to participate in the Mississippi Deferred Compensation (MDC) Plan. It is a voluntary supplemental tax-deferred retirement savings plan offered through PERS.
Insurance
- Employees and their dependents are offered Health Insurance coverage under the State and School Employees’ Health Insurance Plan beginning their first day on the job with a choice of two options.
- MDEQ offers their employees a wide range of supplemental insurances including life, dental, vision, cancer, disability and critical care. In addition, MDEQ offers a pre-tax flexible spending account which will pay for eligible medical and/or dependent care expenses on a pre-taxed basis.
Other Perks
- MDEQ offers several employee benefits such as paid personal and major medical leave, in addition to 10 paid holidays per year. Other benefits include on-the-job training, flexible work schedules (e.g., compressed, telecommuting) and direct deposit.
- MDEQ employees could be eligible for educational assistance as long as the employee has met the eligibility requirements set forth in Mississippi Code Section §37-101-293 and MDEQ policy.
